Client Spotlight

Inner Arbor Trust was established in 2013 following a new plan for Downtown Columbia, Maryland, approved by Howard County in 2010, that mandated the redevelopment of Symphony Woods into a “new kind of culture park.” The idea is to integrate the 36 acres of Symphony Woods with the renowned Merriweather Post Pavilion, which it surrounds, to create a park that caters to the arts, culture and civic uses. President and CEO of Inner Arbor Trust, Michael McCall, describes the project as a “wondrous, sensuous park,” one that not only serves the arts but also provides a beautiful and family-friendly park. The park will include a state-of-the art playground, walking paths, the Chrysalis amphitheater and much more. It will provide a place where community can gather together in unity in the fusion of arts in nature.

The first step of the project is the construction of the Chrysalis amphitheater, a new kind of outdoor amphitheater, adjacent to Merriweather Post Pavilion. Its bold design features a covered stage with a curved roof that is a work of architectural perfection. This amphitheater will not only provide a place for performances but will also be a place for social gatherings. Construction of the Chrysalis is planned to begin in September and is scheduled to be open during the summer of 2016. The next phase scheduled for completion is the construction of a boardwalk connecting the amphitheater to the library. The boardwalk will make the Chrysalis’ prime location even more accessible. This project has the potential to transform Columbia Town Center, and we wish Inner Arbor Trust luck as they enter into the upcoming construction period of a new destination spot for people who live, work, and visit Columbia, Maryland.
